Bus Rapid Transit and Low Emssion Bus Programs

Bus Rapid Transit systems are a high capacity, lower cost and reasonably flexible transit solution to improve mobility and reliability while decreasing emissions in urban áreas. While a number of C40 cities have experienced great success with Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), others are beginning to explore this approach. This session considered how BRT compares to other transit investment choices, necessary infrastructure planning and alternative bus technologies.

The moderator of the session was Clever Almeida, President of the Institute of Research and Urban Planning of Curitiba; and speakers Flora Mokgohloa, Johannesburg Executive Director of Environmental Management; Marcelo Branco, São Paulo Secretary of Transportation, and Yonchan Jeong, Seoul Assistant Mayor for Environmental Protection.
