In this session it will be discussed the various aspects the urban environments influence almost every aspect of human health and wellbeing

Global climate change and megacity urban health is of vital relevance at a time when the majority of the world’s population is living in urban areas. It is especially in the megacities of developing countries that higher urban growth rates can be found. In this session it will be discussed the various aspects the urban environments influence almost every aspect of human health and wellbeing, how cities are associated with both positive and negative effects on public health, as well as, how they offer various public health innovations, provide improved health care and services, and offer better information on climate related diseases.


Round Table #B - Education for Sustainable Development

In this session it will be discussed the importance of educational institutions taking a leading role in making use of the creative, dynamic and cross-curricular resources

It is worldwide recognized that responding to our changing planet is one of the greatest and most important intellectual challenges facing humanity. This challenge requires vigorous actions to improve climate change and Earth system science education at the elementary, secondary, undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as, to increase the general public awareness. In this session it will be discussed the importance of educational institutions taking a leading role in making use of the creative, dynamic and cross-curricular resources developed tailored programs for sharing best practices and positive action with creativity, flexibility and effective progression through the years.

Round Table #C - Urban Design and Planning for the Age of Climate Change

This panel will demonstrate the needs to promote an integrated approach of land use transformation, policy changes, and innovative technology
 

The urban regions have a fundamental role in mitigating and adapting to climate change. The evidences from the megacities indicates the necessity to promote new urban design and planning strategies which takes into account the regionally scaled urbanism and combine with green technologies to achieve not only needed reductions in carbon emissions but other critical economies and lifestyle benefits. This panel will demonstrate the needs to promote an integrated approach of land use transformation, policy changes, and innovative technology in order to promote a transition to a low carbon economy.

 

Round Table #D - Energy Challenges for Sustainable Development

In this session it will be discussed the growing demand for energy services and the needs for new policy frameworks and life-styles

Global energy needs for sustainable development requires a new paradigm with convergence of innovative technologies, institutional structures, policy frameworks and human behavior. In this session it will be discussed the growing demand for energy services, the needs for security and reliability of systems, the required GHG reductions, the investment in R&D and diffusion, as well as, the needs for new policy frameworks and life-styles.
