New Plans for São Paulo

Action Plan for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change

São Paulo’s mayor, Gilberto Kassab, launched, at C40, the Action Plan for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change. The document includes strategies in several areas to reduce gas emission in 30% up to 2012.

The text predicts action in the areas: transportation, energy, construction, land use, solid waste and health. In each item, there are purposes of projects to increase the infrastructure in a sustainable way. The committee has a plan to drive ongoing projects.

Sao Paulo has so far some good examples to show, such as 115 km of bus rapid transit, a bicycle lane of 100 km and the substitution of 849 lamps to LED at Parque do Ibirapuera.
