Linear Parks

The Linear Parks Program, described in the City Plan and already under development, is an important iniciative in terms of adaptation to climate changes

It combine expasion and maintenance of permeability, flood prevention, sanitation and housing programs intended to move the population from risk areas to safe settlements, and the creation of areas for leisure, sports, and cultural activities.

Among the parks under construction, it is worth mentioning three special groups with a very strategic role. The first of these parks is located in the southern zone of the city, at the edge of the Guarapiranga Dam, expanding entertainment options for local populations and preventing new settlements in the area. The revival of “Guarapiranga Beach” includes five parks, covering all area not yet occupied in the vicinity of the dam.

The second group is located at the northern area of the city, at the buffer area of Serra da Cantareira (Cantareira’s Mountain Range), covering ten million square feet spread over nine parks. Six of those parks are undergoing expropriation processes. These are linear as well as traditional parks, designed to create a buffer and protection area for Serra da Cantareira State Park, an iniciative that will preserve all area surrounding the Park in the city of São Paulo.
