Event “Biodiversity in São Paulo 2021”- included in Italy´s All4Climate Programme - a dialogue about the challenges of climate crisis

Integration between countries aids in the goals of Paris Agreement of reducing global warming

The event consisted of a discussion on strategies to fight climate changes are in the guidelines of the All4Climate Programme, promoted in Italy and, with the mediation of the Municipal Department of International Affairs, will have the Brazilian participation with the online event “Biodiversity in São Paulo 2021”, via The Municipal Department of the Environment´s YouTube channel.

The “Biodiversity in São Paulo 2021” seminar will be held on September 30th with an extensive schedule from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The initial presentation will have institutional film clips and the opening session will be presented by representatives from the Departments of Environment and of International Affairs.

In the morning, Doctor in Ecology by UNICAMP, Rafael Dias Loyola, of the Brazilian Panel of Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services, will approach the convention of Biodiversity and the cities, the relations to human well-being, with a focus on the country’s biomes. Roberta del Giudice, Executive Secretary of Observatory of Forest Code, will talk about the law project 2510/19 on permanent preservation areas in the urban perimeter and metropolitan regions. The management of green areas in São Paulo, led by the Municipal Department of the Environment will be explained by the Coordinator of Management of Parks and Municipal Biodiversity, Tamires Carla de Oliveira.

In the afternoon, the coordinator of Rede Nossa SP, Jorge Abrahão, will highlight the social demands for biodiversity, in order to support the public management in the formulation of more inclusive policies linked to the environment. Climate change and biodiversity will be the theme of the speech of the Doctor in Botany, Giuliano Locosselli, from USP’s Advance Studies Institute. Denise Duarte, professor of USP’s Architecture and Urbanism College, will explain the importance of environmental comfort in the city. The epidemiologist of the Municipal Department of Health, Eduardo de Masi, will approach the question of biomonitoring: the experience of controlling yellow fever.

Outcome of the partnership of Rede Brasil of the Global Pact of the UN with seven other organisations, the Urban Bioconnection Alliance will have a space to highlight the promotion of Brazilian sustainable development through strategies to mitigate the effects of climate changes in the cities and how to fight urban challengers. The last presentation, before the closing debate, will be about biodiversity and the intergenerational injustice - with the journalist Ana Pinho, mobiliser of Coalition for Climate, that acts in the collective construction of ways to fight the climate crisis, and also with the forestry engineer from the Federal University of Sergipe and coordinator of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network, Frances Andrade.


All4Climate

The Program “All4Climate — Italy2021” has as its goal making this year memorable for climate ambition. Launched by Italian Ministry for Ecological Transition in collaboration with the Connect4Climate of the World Bank Group and the participation of Lombardy Region and Millan Municipality, All4Climate seeks to promote a proactive dialogue on the challenges of climate crisis and to achieve the goals from the Paris Agreement - world treaty to reduce global warming.

All4Climate offers an opportunity to climate activists worldwide to contribute directly to the meetings of November’s COP26 - UN conference to discuss action to combat climate changes.
