4th of October is a day dedicated to Saint Francis Assisi, the protector of all animals. Born Francisco Bernardone in a wealthy family in the city of Assisi, Italy, Saint Francis adopted a life style based on mildness, lightness, humility and absolute love and respect for nature and all creatures. In 1208, he created the Franciscan Order. In 1979 Pope John Paul II proclaimed him saint protector of ecologists.
