Municipal Secretariat of Urban Security participates in the XXI Meeting of UCCI Sectoral Urban Security Committee

Via videoconference, Secretary Elza Paulina de Souza represented São Paulo in the discussion on good practices in the area of citizen security among the member-cities of the network

On Thursday (08), the Municipal Secretary of Urban Security, Elza Paulina de Souza, participated in the XXI Meeting of UCCI Sectorial Committee on Security and Municipal Police, promoted by the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities. The event was held virtually on April 7th and 8th. Besides São Paulo, several Latin American and European cities joined the meeting.
 
During the event, the participants talked about citizen security in public spaces and the formulation of public policies, focusing on the cities' experiences on studies of violence, urban security, and citizenship. The meeting had the objective to promote cooperation, the exchange of experiences, and good practices in the area of citizen security among the member cities of the network. Secretary Elza also introduced the Maria da Penha Guard policy to UCCI members at the Prevención Situational y Comunitária roundtable, highlighting the role of Municipal Secretariat of Urban Security in combating the violence against women in the City of São Paulo.
 
In her speech, the Urban Security Secretary highlighted how São Paulo has been committed to reinforcing and strengthening systems to protect women. The initiatives that integrate the Guardian Maria da Penha programme consists in updating the attendance portal 156, providing financial support to program members, establishing an Electronic Occurrence Report and the role of Casa da Mulher Brasileira, opened 24 hours a day to assist women who were victims of domestic violence.
