São Paulo receives a virtual mission from the World Bank to implement the BRT Aricanduva Corridor Project

The opening of the mission was held on Monday (07); the meetings are to discuss the project schedule and progress

From 7th to 10th of June, the City of São Paulo participates in the daily meetings of the World Bank's virtual Mission for the implementation of the Aricanduva BRT Corridor Project. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the mission takes place virtually through daily videoconferences with technicians from the Departments of Mobility and Transport (SMT), International Affairs (SMRI), Infrastructure and Works (SIURB), Finance (SMF), Comptroller's Office of the Municipality (CGM), SP Obras and SPTrans. On Monday (7), the World Bank delegation was welcomed by Secretary Marta Suplicy (SMRI), Secretary Marcos Monteiro (SIURB), and Secretary Levi dos Santos Oliveira (SMT), as well as representatives of the Municipal Finance Department, from General Comptroller of the Municipality and SPTrans.

At the opening, Secretary Marta highlighted the importance of the project for urban mobility in the East Zone of São Paulo. “The Aricanduva BRT Corridor will transform mobility in the East Zone of São Paulo, serving hundreds of thousands of passengers a day in one of the most populated regions of the city,” she pointed out.

During this mission, participants from the departments involved in the project discuss the schedule, the progress of the BRT components, such as environmental and social tenders, financial management, road mobility, in addition to the interaction with the Smart Mobility project. Aiming to improve accessibility for public transport users in the city, the BRT Corridor Aricanduva project provides for 290,000 passengers per day between Radial Leste (beginning of the route) and Terminal São Mateus (East Zone). The initiative will be financed by the World Bank; the total value of the program is US$121.25 million, with US$97 million from the World Bank and US$24.25 million in counterparts.
