São Paulo receives donation of hospital items from the Government of India

The action is the result of the articulation of the international team of the City Hall with the Consulate General of India in Sao Paulo

São Paulo’s City Hall received a donation of more than 1,900 hospital items from the Government of India last Tuesday (29th). The action was made possible through the articulation of the City Hall international team with the General Consulate of India in São Paulo. In total, 1,800 masks for hospital use N-95, 50 gallons of alcohol gel (4.3l each), 75 facial protectors (face shields) and 30 hospital overalls were received.

The donation ceremony was held on Tuesday morning (29th), at the City Hall, and was attended by the Secretary of International Relations, Luiz Alvaro Salles Aguiar de Menezes, and the General Consul of India in Sao Paulo, Amit Kumar Mishra. The event was also accompanied by the Coordinator of Bilateral International Affairs, Elizabeth Carmelita Moura Affonso, the Vice-Consul of India in São Paulo, Naresh Sharma, and the Commercial Assistant of the Consulate General of India in São Paulo, Christiano Branco. After the formality, the donated items were forwarded to the Center for the Distribution of Medicines and Related Items (CDMEC), of the Municipal Health Secretariat.

International Cooperation

Ethnic and cultural diversity is a characteristic that brings the two countries together. Brazil and India act in international forums such as BRICS, G4 and BASIC (Brazil, South Africa, India and China, group formed for political coordination in the area of climate change). In trade relations, the Indian country and the city of São Paulo moved US$ 358.5 million in 2018, according to data from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services.

The São Paulo capital values the Indian culture. Last year, Yoga International Day (June 21st) was celebrated with an event at Ibirapuera Park, with the traditional dance presentation and an open Yoga class. The city counts with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center, a space linked to the Indian General Consulate in São Paulo, which seeks to preserve and promote the traditions of Indian culture in Brazil.
