The City of São Paulo became a signatory member of the United Nations (UN) Global Compact. "The city of São Paulo has an immense potential to develop with sustainability, seeking social and gender equality for our citizens. Our efforts aim to dialogue with international actions to overcome society's challenges," said Luiz Alvaro Salles Aguiar de Menezes, Secretary of International Relations.

By joining the Global Compact, the city of São Paulo proposes to implement the ten principles of the initiative in the areas of Human Rights, Labor, Environment and Anticorruption. In addition, the City Hall is also willing to articulate actions between public authorities, private initiative, civil society and other social organizations to promote Agenda 2030 in the municipal and metropolitan context.

"The public sector represents about 10% of the Global Pact's Brazil Network, also composed of companies. We believe that the SDOs can only be achieved with the union of public and private authorities. The SDO established goals for the world, until 2030, compiling our main challenges, such as the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, access to health and education, the containment of climate change, amongst others. We want to achieve a society in which no one is left behind," said Carlo Pereira, Executive Director of the Global Compact Brazil Network.

The Global Pact completes 20 years in 2020 and is the largest corporate sustainability initiative of the world, with over 13,000 members in 160 countries. Based in New York, the initiative offers guidelines for the promotion of citizenship and sustainable growth through innovative leadership. In Brazil, it has been present since 2003 with more than 900 members.
