Actions against the coronavirus accomplished by São Paulo’s City Hall are cited as an example in the publication of the international network C40

With support of the International Relations team, C4O published a case study with the main City Hall initiatives during the pandemic

The actions taken to confront coronavirus in the city of São Paulo have gained international prominence. Based on the information provided by the International Relations team of São Paulo’s City Hall, the cities network, C40 has published a case study with the measures adopted by the City Hall to contain the outbreak of the new coronavirus in the city.

Envisioning good practices to combat Covid-19, the article cites the measures applied in São Paulo’s capital in the areas of education, care and support to vulnerable populations, health and municipal funeral service. "The fight against the coronavirus is a global challenge and our main weapons are science, accurate information and social responsibility. In São Paulo, we are facing Covid-19 with great seriousness and transparency," declared Mayor Bruno Covas.

Amongst the previously mentioned initiatives are the field hospitals, which were prepared to receive low complexity cases and public awareness campaigns to inform the population about the risks of the disease. In addition, the study also cites the creation of seven new shelters for the people that live on the streets, with 24-hour care and capacity to receive about 600 people.

"To fight Covid-19, Mayor Bruno Covas' management has acted to preserve the population's health and save lives. Now, with the gradual resumption of economic activities, these actions are more cautious to ensure that the reopening of commercial activities and services are safe for all," explained the Secretary of International Relations, Luiz Alvaro Salles Aguiar de Menezes.

The city of São Paulo has begun its preparations to face the pandemic already in January. Beyond the practical actions to deal with the coronavirus, the Municipal Secretariats have participated in several online seminars and virtual debates to learn about the global practices and recommendations in order to fight against Covid-19.
