Pinheiros and Tietê expressways receive 19th phase of program “SP Cidade Linda”

Action to revitalize both sides of the expressways will be happening in the next 4 weeks. Due to the flow of vehicles, traffic blockades are going to be in place during early morning

The program “SP Cidade Linda”, meaning São Paulo Beautiful City in English, reaches its 19th phase and benefits the Pinheiros and Tietê expressways. The initiative involves a great effort from 15 of our 32 Regional City Halls to revitalize almost 50 km within the month. Because of the flow of vehicles, this edition of the program was started on May 5th-6th with traffic blockades between 11PM and 5AM,

This action is divided in 4 axes, each one with a duration of one week. In the first, the work is going to be done on the right side of the Pinheiros expressway in the direction of Castello Branco. In the second week, it will move to the left side, in the direction of Interlagos. During the third week, the action goes on to the Tietê expressway, in the direction of Ayrton Senna, and the fourth axis is going to close activities on the left side of Tietê. “We have 4 weeks of action of “Cidade Linda” with 22 distinct steps. One of them is the implementation of crosswalks, as we have already been doing with speed tables in the streets transversal to the expressways”, affirms Mayor João Doria.

With almost 22.5 km length, Pinheiros expressway crosses areas of Butantã, Campo Limpo, Lapa, M’Boi Mirim, Pinheiros, and Santo Amaro Regional City Halls. On the other hand, Tietê is 24.5 km, and goes through Casa Verde, Freguesia, Lapa, Pirituba, Mooca, Penha, Santana, Sé, and Vila Maria Regional City Halls.

The actions that depend on light to be completed, such as tree pruning, weeding, and curbs painting are going to be executed during the day. To this end, the lanes may be partially blocked. Pothole repair services will be done mainly on expressways and during the early morning.

Weekly, approximately 750 employees and more than 160 vehicles and machines are going to be dedicated towards this action. The central gardens and green areas will receive full gardening services, including bush trimmings, and the planting of grass, flowers and trees. The recovering of structures as street gutters and walls are going to be done with over 230 employees. Due to the proximity to electrical wiring, the dealership Eletropaulo will be pruning 756 trees in the very first week.

The two expressways’ lighting has already been reviewed. The ILUME (Department of Public Lighting) conducted inspection rounds, maintenance, and cleaning in their axes that has a total of 6,278 lights: 3,063 in Pinheiros and 3,215 in Tietê. In the Pinheiros expressway, which has LED technology lighting, 215 corrections have already been done. In the Tietê expressway, there were 578 corrections, with 405 replacements. During the operation, the Department has also inspected the lighting in the Bandeirantes Avenue, where 799 repairs have been made in the 907 existing lamps.

In the first phase, the CET (Traffic Engineering Company) will be responsible for the checking and maintenance of 1,768 sq. m. of horizontal signaling, 26 traffic light columns, and 51 traffic signs. In the same weekend, 40 bus stops will receive maintenance, including cleaning, removal of posters, and the inclusion of adhesives posting with bus routes. Furthermore, they support the action of the GCM (Municipal Police) and of the Social Assistance agents.

Revitalized square

Camafeu Square, in the South area of the city, is going to be revitalized by a cooperation term signed by SP Market Center shopping mall, in partnership with São Joaquim Group. The implementation of covers in bus stops, urbanistic project, reform of horizontal and vertical signaling, geometry adjustment and pedestrian defenses are among planned actions.

These interventions will have approximately R$150,000 of investment, with no costs to the city. Mayor João Doria highlights the importance to the capital city of partnerships with companies and makes himself available to other representatives of private initiative that want to contribute to the city.
