It is the first time that cities take part on the World Expo

The mayor Gilberto Kassab has annouced this Wednesday, August the 26, Sao Paulo’s participation in Expo Shanghai 2010. It is the first time that cities take part on the World Expo. Kassab has highlighted that it will be a grand opportunity to represent the city to the 70 million guests expected in the view.

“It is in fact relevant, São Paulo’s participating for the first time in an event open to all cities in the world”, said. He explained that “Clean City Law”, responsible for the urban landscapes visual pollution remediation, was fundamental for Sao Paulo to be chosen to participate on Expo, whose theme is “Better City, Better Life”.

“São Paulo’s presence on Expo will offer the opportunity to present its economic success and its long-term development, as well as enlarge international investments”, highlighted China’s Consul General for São Paulo, Sun Rongmao. There will be 184 days to position the city abroad and consolidate its image as a Global City.

“We want to present our best urban practices and public policies toward the well being of our citizens”, has said the Municipal Secretary for International Relation, Alfredo Cotait. We shall as well spread the cities competitive potential to attract tourists and businesses, besides showing the economical and cultural diversity of the biggest city in South America.
