São Paulo is highlighted in international ranking that points out “Megacities of the Future”

The Financial Times group ranks the main cities in terms of attracting foreign investment, economic development, and business expansion

The city of São Paulo was included in the “Global Cities of the Future 2021/2022”, an international ranking prepared by consultancy fDi Intelligence. The municipality occupies fourth place in the list of the ten “Megacities of the Future” with the best strategies for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the tenth place, among the megacities, in the perspective of “Human Capital and Lifestyle”.

The municipality participated in this ranking through an articulation by the Municipal Secretariat of International Affairs. Among the highlights of São Paulo's candidacy is the Municipal Privatization Program, which brings together privatization projects, concessions, and public-private partnerships (PPPs) to decentralize local administration decisions. In this sense, it is worth mentioning the performance of São Paulo Investimento e Negócios (SPIN), the municipality's investment and export promotion agency, in supporting companies and priority investment projects in the city, as well as in institutional and procedural support to interested parties investing in the city.

The “Global Cities of the Future 2021/2022” ranking also considered the potential of the city of São Paulo in bringing together innovative solutions, strategic location, qualified labour, service provision, and quality of life for residents. The list of the best-rated cities was published in the February / March issue of fDi Magazine, which is part of the Financial Times group. For the selection, the team of the consultancy considered the economic, financial, and business strengths of 129 cities around the world. Click here to check the digital edition of the magazine.

The city of São Paulo is the only Brazilian participant in this ranking. São Paulo´s capital is responsible for 10.6% of the Brazilian GDP and, even with the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus, it continues to receive investments and business interests, due to the city's infrastructure, its social capital, economic potential, and business environment. Other cities such as Singapore (Singapore), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), London (United Kingdom), New York (United States), Shanghai (China) and Buenos Aires (Argentina) are also among the ranking.
