The Municipal Department of International Affairs will represent São Paulo in the XIX UCCI General Assembly

The Multilateral encounter of ibero-american cities will discuss the planning of entity’s action up to 2024 - with a focus on the approach of a sustainable post-pandemic economic recovery

The Municipal Secretary of International Affairs, Marta Suplicy, will represent the City of São Paulo at the XIX General Assembly of the Union Ibero-Americans Capital Cities (UCCI) held on November 4th and 5th, in Madrid, Spain.

It is a biannual high-level political forum of the representatives of capitals and big cities from Ibero-America, in which are defined strategic questions of UCCI, such as the election for positions in the structure of the organisation.

São Paulo will be a candidate for the title of recognition of ‘Ibero-American Green Capital’.

“This title of Ibero-American Green Capital was established by UCCI in 2005, to recognise local government policies that seek to strengthen and consolidate green areas and urban biodiversity, as a basis to advance in the direction of a sustainable city. We seek to set São Paulo apart, in the vanguard and as a counterpoint to the image of a Brazil of scientific denial and the denial of the protection of the environment”, explains Marta Suplicy.

The postulation to this title can be made during the Assembly, and the decision will be taken at the reunion of the Executive Council - formed by co-president and vice president cities of UCCI - in 2022.

Also, Marta Suplicy will be able to ask to take over the presidency of one of the many Sectoral Committees of the organisation, such as the “Resilient and Sustainable Cities”.
