 Dom Helder

“Whenever there be a contrast between your hapiness and gray skies, or between your sadness and vivid skies, bless the disencouter, which is a divine reminder that the world does not start neither ends with you”

Born February 7th, 1909, in the city of Fortaleza and deceased August 27th, 1999, the life of Dom Helder Camara was greatly devoted to the defense of social and human dignity. His voice was a courageous one in favor of human rights, justice and peace during Brazil’s military regime. Also known as “Peace Pastor”, in 1980 Pope John Paul II referred to Dom Helder as “Brother to the poor and my brother, he pointed to the essencial in his life: his love for little ones and his relentless fight for justice, to rescue them from poverty, returning them hope and dignity of sons and daughters of God”.
